Have you ever encountered buying a loaf of bread and not finishing it before its expiration date? Well Bread pudding was discovered in the 13th century England, where frugal cooks looked for a way to use stale, or left over bread. It was known as “poor man’s pudding”. And now it is popular in restaurants around the world. But more interesting is it’s not only easy to make, it can also be sold in the streets, especially in Hong Kong. And for the twist, I have added cinnamon because I love that aromatic flavor.
But where did cinnamon come from? It comes from the inner layer of bark derives from dozens of varieties of evergreen trees. Then the farmers shave the outer bark off the trees, and then shave off the inner bark. Then they are dried and naturally curl up into “quills”. Those quills are then cut into sticks or ground into cinnamon powder.
Cinnamon also is one of the most delicious and healthiest spices on the planet because of the following reasons:
- It helps lowers blood sugar levels
- It helps reduce heart disease risk factors
- It is loaded in antioxidants
