Let’s face it, doughnuts makes us happy all the time but eating too much may cause serious health risks. They contain loads of sugars and fats from the oil, making it best for destroying one’s diet. As a concerned cook my objective is to provide my customers a tasty sinful street food that can be healthy at the same time. That is why my chosen spice is Allspice for it is known for its medicinal properties and health benefits.
Allspice was discovered by Christopher Columbus in Jamaica. In early 17th century it was named allspice because spice traders identified it with a combination of flavors: clove, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Always remember that allspice is a dried fruit that has similar looks with peppercorns.
Allspice have been proven by researchers to have a lot of health benefits, the few are the following:
- Allspice have been found to have anti-inflammatory, rubefacient (warming and soothing), carminative, and anti-flatulent properties.
- It also contains various vitamins and minerals, (too many to mention)
- The active principles in the allspice may increase the motility of the gastro-intestinal tract in addition to aid in digestion through facilitating enzyme secretions inside the stomach and intestines.
